Poetry Vocab

Sound Devices
  1. Rhyme- identity in sound of some part, especially the end, of words or lines of verse
  2. Repetition- the act of repeating; repeated action, performance, production, or presentation.
  3. Alliteration- the commencement of two or more words of a word group with the same letter

Devices
  1. Symbol- object, person, or idea that stand for something
  2. Imagery- words and phrases that appeal to the senses
  3. Figurative language-
    • Metaphor- A comparison without using like or as
    • Similie A comparison using like or as
    • personafication- Actions that people do but put it for something in nature
Forms and Purposes (types)
  1. Narrative- tells a story
  2. Ballad (narrative)- it tells a story (very serious) and sentimental 
  3. Lyric-having the form and musical quality of a song, poet's own thoughts and feelings, as distinguished from epic and dramatic poetry
